He is also a keen long-bow archer and is enthusiastic about his sport which he says is ideal for people with stomas, even those with a hernia. You can watch Bruce talk about his experiences of sport after stoma surgery and how he adjusted to life with a stoma by clicking on his photo below. We will be releasing more films, featuring more people with stomas who enjoy physical activity over the coming months, so watch this space! | 13.05.13 | Walk for Ostomy Lifestyle! |
The Red Kite Ramble is a charity walk through the beautiful Buckinghamshire Chiltern Hills, home to the magnificant Red Kite. The walk can be done over a 6, 11 or 17 route and takes place on Sunday 23rd June. We will be there on the day to support all our walkers and tell people more about the important work we do for people affected by stoma surgery. The walk is organised by the Clare Foundation which is a charity that works with other voluntary sector organisations to help them become more efficient and raise more funds. Through them we have an unlimited number of places in this great event. Places cost £10 per person (or £20 per family) and 50% of that comes back to Ostomy Lifestyle. If you decide to fundraise for this by getting friends, family and colleagues to sponsor you, all your fundraising comes directly to us, so this is a brilliant opportunity for you to stretch your legs in some beautiful scenery and raise much needed funds for us too! For more details see here or contact the office. |

So far the group has proved to be an encouraging, supportive and positive one with many people reporting that they have been inspired to take part in more fitness activities, so why not join them today? |

| 29.01.13 | Ostomy Lifestyle on BBC Radio 4! |
We were thrilled to be invited to talk about stomas on Woman's Hour on BBC Radio 4 today. Our Helpline Manager, Helen Bracey, spoke about her own personal experiences of living with a stoma and the issues people commonly face. We felt the programme dealt with this, often taboo, subject with clarity, interest and compassion. You can listen to the feature here, the section on stomas is about 30 minutes in. We see this feature as a great opportunity to raise awareness of stomas so we encourage you to share the link to the programme wherever you can. Let's increase people's understanding of what it means to live with a stoma! We would love to know your thoughts on the feature so please email us or get in touch via Facebook or Twitter. |
